We want you to feel comfortable before you arrive on our campus. Here are some tips that will help ensure your visit to First Baptist Church is memorable – for all the right reasons!

First things first — coffee and tea
You may find that the conversations and sermons are so stimulating that you won’t need caffeine ask a volunteer to point you in the direction of our Fellowship Hall for freshly brewed coffee, tea, and hot chocolate.

What style of worship do you have?

Psalm 95 says “Let us sing to the Lord! Let us make a joyful noise with songs of praise!” Throughout Scripture, we are reminded of the importance of worshiping God and worshiping as part of a community. At First Baptist, we take these two things seriously.

We gather for worship at 8:45 and 11am. We also come together for One Worship several times throughout the year for a combined worship service as a faith community. Our worship services are meant to uplift, empower, challenge, and encourage us in our own lives as we seek to live out our faith each day. Through song, prayer, scripture, and sermons, our services blend a feeling of warm community with reverent worship of God.

The early service is a contemporary expression of Christian worship and starts at 8:45am in the Fellowship Hall. This worship is supported by our Praise Team, a multi-generational group that leads in contemporary Christian music. You also experience the use of multi-media presentations as film and current event clips are used to enhance the worship experience.

The late service meets at 11:00am in the Sanctuary following an hour of Sunday School. Supporting this worship is our Chancel Choir singing an eclectic selection of music from the master composers of the past and the choral innovators of today. Congregational singing is accompanied by a pipe organ and piano as we sing hymns that reflect our faith.

Whether you prefer a more casual environment with contemporary music led by a band, or you love singing hymns accompanied by an organ and piano, First Baptist welcomes you to join us on Sundays. We hope you find a place where all are welcomed and encouraged to come and worship just as you are

What do I do with my kids?

Your child is welcome to stay in worship with you! We believe that children are the church of the present and we welcome them into worship- wiggles and giggles and all. They are not a distraction but rather a beautiful and important part of our church. We have a worship cart that has quiet activities your child can use during worship. We also understand that younger children may have a hard time sitting through worship, and so we also have a nursery available for PreK children and younger that is staff with our paid nursery workers.

Sunday School
Sunday School is offered for all ages from 9:30- 10:15am.  Infant through three-year-old classes meet in the lower fellowship hall area. Classes for children age 4 through grade 5 are offered in the Children's Wing, which is located in the basement under the Fellowship Hall. Youth Classes (grades 6-12)  are offered in The Loft (the third floor of the Education Building). Classes are offered throughout the Education Building and Main Building for all ages groups from college-age through senior adults. A member of the Hospitality Team or any of our staff are available on Sundays to direct you to an appropriate Sunday School class.

Do I have to get dressed up?
Jesus and his apostles did not have a dress code, so neither do we. You should feel comfortable being yourself here, but you’ll find that most people do get a little spiffed up for Sunday service. Suits and dresses, jeans and t-shirts (G-rated of course – it’s church!) are all welcome here.

What should we know about the worship services?
Our Sunday worship service has a traditional feel to it, which is a nice counterbalance to our moderate theology. We have a wonderful choir and their musical presentations are always uplifting. We pray together, we sing hymns, we have about a twenty-minute sermon, and we collect an offering that supports the ministries of the church as well as local nonprofits. You won’t find us reciting creeds, but we do occasionally recite prayers and litanies together. Once a month, we offer communion to all those who would like to partake (any age, regardless of his or her baptismal status). The entire service lasts approximately one hour, though we hope the effects of your time with us will last much, much longer.

Parking
Parking is available on three sides of the church along with street parking. If you just circle the church, we are sure you will find something close.
