Director

Carrie Jones

Mrs. Jones has worked at FBC Preschool since 2015, and took on the role of Director in July, 2019. Mrs. Jones was born and raised in Waynesboro and received her B.A. from Mary Baldwin College and her master's in Museum Studies/Education from Baylor University. It was in museum education that Mrs. Jones first studied the importance of learning through play for young children and the importance of hands-on learning for people of all ages!

Mrs. Jones came to First Baptist Preschool initially when she enrolled her daughters. She loved the “family” atmosphere so much that she later started working as a staff member in the 2-year-olds class, the 3-year-olds class, and finally the 4-year-olds class. Mrs. Jones loves working at FBC Preschool where “we let children be children and discover the world around them in the ways they naturally learn - through play.” She loves being able to make a positive impact on the lives of the families and children at FBC Preschool and serving them as part of the mission outreach of First Baptist Church.

Mrs. Jones is married to her college sweetheart, Steven Jones, and has two daughters. Mrs. Jones loves watching movies as a family, swimming in her pool with friends and family, and eating Kline’s ice cream!

Mrs. Leech  serves as the preschool's floating teaching assistant and assists any teacher/class as needed.

She attended Montreat Anderson College where she majored in Elementary Education.  She has served First Baptist Church Weekday Preschool for many years as both a teacher and teaching assistant. She has also taught at Reveille Preschool in Richmond.  Mrs. Leech also worked for the Department of Social Services for 7 years.

First Baptist Church Weekday Preschool is near and dear to Mrs. Leech's heart and she feels that this preschool is "her third child" in many ways.  Supporting not only the children, but also their families is very important to Mrs. Leech.  We know the what our preschool means to her and we know what she means to our preschool.

Mrs. Leech has 2 sons, Ben and Daniel, and 2 grandsons.  She enjoys spending time with her family, traveling when she can and promoting the arts at the Wayne Theater.

Mrs. Leah Cave

(LEAD TEACHER: 2 Year Old Class and 3-mornings 3 Year Old Class)

Mrs. Cave lives in Waynesboro with her husband and 5 children (ages 22, 16, 12, 9 and 5). On her city “farmette” she also has 4 dogs, 4 cats, 3 pigs, 7 chickens and 2 turtles. Mrs. Cave has been a stay-at-home mom for 22 years where she spent her time homeschooling for several years, running a learning pod for the neighborhood during Covid, and finally operating a home-based daycare.

After her son graduated from First Baptist Preschool and entered Kindergarten, Mrs. Cave realized she wasn’t ready to stop spending her day with children. She knew there was no where she would rather be than First Baptist Preschool where we start as friends and end as family. Mrs Cave is so excited for this school year and to meet your little one!

Mrs. Cathy Gibbs

(Teaching Assistant: 2 Year Old Class)

Mrs. Gibbs is originally from Pocahontas County, West Virginia. She attended Bridgewater College for elementary education. Following graduation, she went to West Virginia University for her Masters in Reading.

She moved back to the Valley and taught in Harrisonburg City and Bath County Schools. After getting married, she and her husband moved to northern Virginia where she substituted for Loudoun County Schools.

In 2011, they moved back to the Shenandoah Valley to be closer to their families and settled in Waynesboro.  Mrs. Gibbs became a stay at home mom after their two kids were born.

When their son started kindergarten, Mrs. Gibbs wanted to get back into the classroom. She fell in love with First Baptist Preschool when their kids attended and knew this was where she wanted to be. It’s such a fun and caring place, and she is so happy to be here!

Mrs. Molly Via

(Teaching Assistant: 3-mornings 3 Year Old Class)

Mrs. Via was born and raised in Waynesboro and attended school in Augusta County.  After graduation she earned my Associate’s degree from Blue Ridge Community College, Bachelor’s degree from Eastern Mennonite, and Master’s of Reading Education degree from JMU.

Mrs. Via began a 35-year teaching career in Waynesboro immediately after graduation.  Most of her time was spent in first or second grade.  However, she also taught preschool, kindergarten and a multi-aged class of first and second graders.

Ms. Brittnie Crabtree

(Teaching Assistant: 5-mornings 3 Year Old Class)

Mrs. Crabtree works with Mrs. Walgren in our 3 year old classroom.  She previously worked in our 2 year old class, and she was a parent volunteer and a substitute teacher for our preschool. Mrs. Crabtree attended Blue Ridge Community College while taking Pharmacy Tech classes.

She says that she "loves FBC Preschool" and feels very close to everyone here because her girls attended our preschool.  We love that she treats every child like her own.

Mrs. Crabtree has twin girls, Lorali and Avery and a sweet pup named Huck.  She loves her family and friends, her church and Bible study group, reading, going to the beach, and staying active with her daughters.

Nicole Hojohn

(LEAD TEACHER: 4 year old class)

Mrs. Hojohn is passionate about helping young children grow, explore, and discover the joy of learning. Her years of experience in early childhood education include homeschooling her six children, directing a cooperative school, and leading a Christian preschool and daycare. These experiences have deepened her understanding of the importance of patience, compassion, and celebrating every milestone in a child’s life.

Two years ago, Mrs. Hojohn, her husband, and their three youngest children moved from Indiana to the area to help support their son and daughter-in-law with their first child. Since then, she has embraced her role as Director of the Grottoes, VA Boys & Girls Club After School Care Program, where she creates a safe, fun, and enriching environment for children of all ages.

She loves designing playful, hands-on activities that spark curiosity while building essential skills for kindergarten and beyond. Mrs. Hojohn looks forward to partnering closely with families at the preschool to nurture each child’s unique strengths and help them thrive.

Judy Tomey

(Teaching Assistant: 4 Year Old Class)

Mrs. Tomey was born in Chicago, and came to Waynesboro when her father’s job with DuPont transferred their family here.  Here Mrs. Tomey met her husband, Arnett, got married and was finally able to “settle.”

After working in retail for several years, Mrs. Tomey decided to do something different and she began to substitute for Waynesboro Public Schools.  Her first substitute job was in a Wayne Hills Pre-K class and she was hooked!  She loved working with the children, and she has worked in all the Waynesboro public preschools and elementary schools.

In her spare time, Mrs. Tomey loves to cook, read, and take care of her garden.

Lauren Warwick

(LEAD TEACHER: 4 year old class)

Ms. Warwick grew up in Covington, Virginia, where her family owned and operated a clothing department store. She is a graduate of Mary Baldwin College. While she originally planned to become a social worker, she soon discovered that teaching fits her heart even better. She taught preschool for several years before becoming a stay-at-home mom and is so excited to be back in the classroom!

Says Ms. Warwick: “Children—especially preschoolers—are my people! Teaching preschool is truly my jam, and I love every moment of it.” She believes each child is unique, and she embraces the wonderful differences that make them who they are. One of her favorite parts of teaching is getting to know each student and their family, building relationships that make the classroom feel like a second home.

She’s a proud boy mom, sports mom, and “mom to all,” always ready to cheer, encourage, and support.

Outside the classroom, she enjoys gardening, walking, listening to music, keeping up with fashion, and spending quality time with her boys, family, and friends. She loves the beach, the water, anything outdoors, and finding new places and restaurants to explore together. Her heart is happiest when helping others!

She is so happy to be part of First Baptist Weekday Preschool!
